  About The School

Honeysuckle Hornets

Honeysuckle was established in August of 1978.  It is one of four middle schools in Dothan City Schools district.  The plan is a modern, flexible-spaced building located in the western part of Dothan.  Designed according to the best experience-proven ideas for middle schools at the time, the climate-controlled facility contains approximately 120,000 square feet of space.  There are three grade levels- sixth, seventh, and eighth.

Instructional teams of general and special education teachers work with over 600 students.  Each grade level is divided into two pods of teachers with different skill areas who are responsible for teaching math, science, social studies, language arts, and reading.  The physical education team consists of two teachers and one aide who teach developmental physical education classes and health to every student.  The exploratory team teaches remediation in math, reading, English, and writing skills one class period a day.  Band and Art are also taught during exploratory.

The administrative staff of HMS consists of a principal and an assistant principal.  Students are served by a guidance counselor, 31 certified classroom teachers, a media specialist, a Reading Coach, Insturctional Coach, and a Security Resource Officer (SRO).  A full-time nurse is available on campus to address medical needs.  Our Parental Involvement Specialist is on campus each Monday to assist with attendance concerns.  Additionally, there are four paraprofessional and support personnel, two office staff, five cafeteria personnel, and three maintenance personnel.
